Tarangire Treetops sits in a private conservation area on the main elephant migration route between Tarangire National Park and the Lake Manyara basin. During the dry season from June to October, elephant herds of hundreds of animals move through this corridor, and the camp’s position on this route means that elephant sightings in and around the lodge are an almost daily occurrence.
The park itself is home to one of the highest concentrations of elephant in Africa, as well as lion, leopard, cheetah, buffalo, giraffe, and an extraordinary variety of birds including the massive ground hornbill and several species of kingfisher along the Tarangire River.
The treehouses are built around living baobab trees, some of which are over 700 years old. The platforms are high, the views are wide, and each treehouse has been designed with a different orientation to capture either the sunrise, the sunset, or a direct view of the waterhole and animal trail below the lodge.
Inside, the design blends natural materials with genuine comfort: polished wooden floors, canvas walls that can be rolled up during the day to open the suite entirely to the air and the view, king-size beds with quality linen, and open-sided ensuite bathrooms with both hot shower and writing desk. Each suite has a wraparound veranda that makes it very hard to go anywhere during the middle of the day.
The baobab bar at the heart of the lodge is built around a 700-year-old tree and acts as the communal gathering point where safari stories are exchanged over cold drinks. It has the quality of a place that encourages lingering.
Meals at Tarangire Treetops are served in the main lodge area or outdoors around the fire, with a kitchen that produces excellent food from local ingredients. Bush breakfasts in the conservancy and dinners in the open air under the baobabs are both available and both extraordinary.

There is an inherent romance in sleeping in a treehouse. Add 700-year-old baobabs, a landscape full of elephants, and some of the finest stargazing in Tanzania, and you have a honeymoon stop that will be told in stories for years.
Elewana Tarangire Treetops is located within Randilen, a private Wildlife Management Area bordering Tarangire National Park in northern Tanzania, administered in partnership with the Honeyguide Foundation. The lodge sits approximately 140 kilometres from Arusha, a two to three-hour drive, and 20 minutes by road from Kuro Airstrip. The unfenced setting within the wildlife management area means animals move freely through and around the property, with a large watering hole in close proximity drawing elephant, zebra, waterbuck, impala, and other mammals at sunrise and dusk each day.
By road the lodge is two to three hours from Arusha or Kilimanjaro International Airport. By air, flights from Arusha connect to Kuro Airstrip, 20 minutes from the lodge by road. Africa Bed of Roses Safaris arranges all flight bookings and transfers as part of your Tanzania honeymoon package.
The treehouse experience is genuinely unlike anything else on the northern Tanzania circuit. The 20 suites are raised on wooden decking and sheltered by thatched roofs, suspended above the ground among ancient baobab and marula trees. The main lodge itself is centred around a thousand-year-old baobab tree, and the elevated position gives guests panoramic views across the treetops and savannah that no ground-level lodge can replicate. For honeymooners, falling asleep to the rumble of elephants below and waking to the sounds of birdsong in the canopy creates a quality of immersion that defines the Tarangire Treetops experience. The watering hole visible from the dining area and many of the suites provides constant passive wildlife viewing without leaving the property.
The lodge has 20 treetop suites raised on wooden platforms with rustic thatched roofs, each with a double bed, en-suite bathroom with an open shower, a table and chairs, an in-room safe, and an extensive viewing balcony overlooking the plains, the waterhole, and the animal trail in front of the lodge. The design blends raw wood with crisp clean linen, and the open shower with bush sounds coming through the canopy creates one of the more distinctive bathroom experiences on any Tanzania safari. Each suite has views of both sunrise and sunset depending on orientation.
Day game drives explore Tarangire National Park and the surrounding wildlife management area, covering the Big Five and over 550 bird species, making it one of Tanzania’s finest birdwatching destinations. Night game drives lasting approximately one and a half hours depart just after dusk with experienced guides, revealing nocturnal wildlife inaccessible to guests staying within the confines of national parks where night drives are not permitted. Guided game walks around the property offer a ground-level perspective on the ecosystem. A Maasai village tour and authentic boma dinner connect guests with the cultural heritage of the Maasai community who are integral to the lodge’s story and staffing. Bush lunches, sundowner cocktails, gourmet picnics, and hot air balloon safaris round out a programme that keeps honeymooners engaged throughout the day and into the evening. Poolside champagne by candlelight at night is one of the more quietly romantic options the lodge offers without any formal arrangement required.
The dining area overlooks the swimming pool and watering hole and is open and spacious with uninterrupted views of the surrounding land. Five-star dinners are served to the sounds of Maasai chants and the wider bush soundtrack, and the boma dinner in an authentic Maasai enclosure is one of the most atmospheric dining experiences available on the northern Tanzania circuit. The bar carries the same open layout as the dining area and the same views across the waterhole.
The lodge has a swimming pool, bar and dining area overlooking the waterhole, laundry service, hairdryer, and English and Kiswahili speaking staff throughout. The unfenced nature of the property means a lodge guide accompanies guests when moving around the camp, which adds to the sense of genuine wilderness immersion rather than detracting from it. Africa Bed of Roses Safaris recommends Tarangire Treetops for honeymooners who want a Tanzania safari experience that is visually and architecturally distinctive, combining treehouse intimacy with strong wildlife access and a cultural connection to the Maasai community that feels genuine rather than staged.
