Lake Manyara is Tanzania’s smallest national park, but its ecological diversity makes it one of the most rewarding. The soda lake at its heart turns pink with flamingos. The groundwater forest at the park’s northern edge is dense and green and full of baboons, colobus monkeys, and bird species that do not appear elsewhere on the northern circuit. The park’s lions are famous for climbing trees, a behaviour unusual enough elsewhere in Africa to be considered genuinely remarkable.
The lodge is located at the park’s remote southern end, which means the game drive from the northern entrance gate to the lodge is itself a three-and-a-half-hour wildlife journey through the park’s full range of habitats. Africa Bed of Roses Safaris arranged this as a guided drive rather than a transfer, which turned our arrival into one of the best drives of the whole Tanzania trip.
Ten treehouse suites are spaced through the mahogany forest at different distances from the main lodge area, each elevated on stilts with wooden walkways connecting them to the central space. The interiors are crafted from local timber and makuti palm fronds, with large windows that frame the forest and let in the particular filtered light that comes through a forest canopy.
Each suite has a king-size bed, an outdoor shower, an ensuite bathroom with a full bathtub, and a private deck suspended above the forest floor. From our deck, we watched an elephant move quietly through the trees below on two separate mornings, the animal completely unbothered by our presence fifteen metres above it. There are moments in travel that leave you genuinely altered, and those mornings were two of them.
At night, Maasai askaris escort guests between the treehouses and the main lodge, as elephants and other large animals move freely through the camp. This is not a managed inconvenience but an acknowledgement that the lodge belongs to the forest, not the other way around.
Meals are served in the main open-air boma, a circular dining area framed by traditional dugout canoes and lit with lanterns in the evenings. The kitchen draws from Tanzanian ingredients and international technique, with a seasonal freshness that reflects the lodge’s values.
The sleepout experience, where guests spend a night on a platform beneath the stars in the forest, is one of the lodge’s signature offerings and deeply romantic for honeymoon couples. Africa Bed of Roses Safaris can arrange this in advance as part of the booking.

Daily game drives through Lake Manyara’s diverse habitats, guided night drives, treetop boardwalk walks through the forest canopy, bicycle tours to nearby Mayoka Village for cultural engagement, and wellness treatments in the massage sala are all available. The Africa Foundation community visit offers genuine engagement with the people who share this landscape.
The lions of Lake Manyara are genuinely known for climbing trees, particularly fig and acacia varieties. Sightings cannot be guaranteed, but the guides know the park’s territories well and tree-climbing lions are reliably reported throughout the year.
AndBeyond Lake Manyara Tree Lodge is situated at the southern end of Lake Manyara National Park in northern Tanzania, blending into a mahogany forest within the park’s boundaries. The position at the southern end means guests enjoy a long and rewarding game drive through the park from the northern main gate on arrival, with wildlife viewing beginning before they even reach the lodge. The Great Rift Valley stretches out on one side and the glassy surface of Lake Manyara shimmers on the other, creating a setting of extraordinary natural contrast that few other properties in Tanzania can match.
Several airlines operate twice-daily scheduled flights from Arusha Airport to Lake Manyara Airstrip, followed by a scenic three-and-a-half-hour drive through the national park to the lodge, with game viewing en route. Coastal Air operates daily flights from Dar es Salaam to Lake Manyara Airstrip on the same transfer arrangement. Africa Bed of Roses Safaris arranges all flight bookings and transfers as part of your Tanzania honeymoon package, turning the journey to the lodge into the first game drive of the stay.
The treehouse experience is the defining feature of the lodge. Each suite is built into the mahogany forest canopy rather than sitting on the ground, giving guests a genuinely elevated perspective on the surrounding woodland and its wildlife. The lodge is specifically positioned for viewing Lake Manyara’s famous tree-climbing lions, one of the rarest wildlife behaviours observable anywhere in Africa, as well as the large flocks of flamingos that gather on the lake’s alkaline shallows. An exclusive sleepout spot within the national park allows guests to spend a night under the open sky of the Rift Valley, which for honeymooners is among the most intimate and memorable experiences available on the northern Tanzania circuit.
Game drives through Lake Manyara National Park cover the park’s celebrated tree-climbing lions, flamingos, elephant, hippo, buffalo, giraffe, and a wide diversity of birdlife across the park’s varied ecosystems from groundwater forest to open lake shore. The exclusive sleepout in the national park is a standout activity for honeymooners seeking an extraordinary night under the stars. The Community Cycle Visit is a scenic guided bicycle ride through the Mayoka community, connecting guests with the people and landscape surrounding the park in a way that a vehicle cannot. Each guest receives a Guides’ Journal containing an illustrated wildlife and vegetation checklist, an area map, and an illustrated star birds checklist to deepen engagement with the ecosystem throughout the stay.
The all-inclusive rate covers accommodation, three meals daily, soft drinks, house wines, local brand spirits and beers, teas and coffees, refreshments on lodge activities, laundry, safari activities at the lodge, emergency evacuation insurance, and scheduled transfers between the lodge airstrip and the property. The comprehensive inclusion means there are very few additional costs beyond optional extras and personal purchases.
Rates are per person sharing per night on a fully all-inclusive basis. During the green season from May through mid-June and the shoulder season from November through mid-December, rates run from USD 1,060 per person per night. During peak and migration season from mid-June through October and the festive period from late December through early January, rates rise to USD 1,690 per person per night. Africa Bed of Roses Safaris confirms current pricing and availability when designing your Tanzania honeymoon itinerary.
The lodge is situated in a malaria area and guests should take the necessary precautions before and during their stay, including consulting a travel health professional ahead of departure. Drones are prohibited within the national park. Children of all ages are welcome at the lodge. Africa Bed of Roses Safaris provides all pre-travel health and practical guidance as part of the honeymoon planning process so couples arrive fully prepared.
