Tour Plan
Day 1 – Arrival Masai Mara National Reserve
Arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi, Kenya, where you will be met and escorted to your light aircraft and transfer to Angama Mara. Fly over the Masai Mara plains and enjoy the wide, open views. You will spend 5 nights at Angama Mara. This luxury lodge is built on a hill overlooking the floor of Kenya’s Great Rift Valley in the famous Masai Mara. It’s the height of a luxury safari experience. Angama Mara has two intimate camps of 15 tented suites each, a private airfield and access to the Mara below. There’s a plethora of things to do at the lodge and its surroundings! On the first day however, take it easy—go for a swim or take a shower, unpack, explore the camp and then prepare to leave for a gentle afternoon safari with a picnic lunch. A private safari vehicle and accompanying ranger are on hand for your sole enjoyment. Game drives are usually planned for early morning and late afternoon, however, you can zip off in the middle of the day should it suit you.
Day 2 – Masai Mara National Reserve
We highly recommend that you go on a full-day safari in the Mara with a picnic breakfast before returning for lunch. If you’re on honeymoon or on a romantic holiday with your partner, then the team at Angama Mara can plan an ‘Out Of Africa’ picnic like no other. It’s a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience. Your guide will show you the best areas for exceptional private game viewing. The Masai Mara is one of the finest game reserves in Africa and home to the Great Migration, one of the greatest spectacles on earth when up to 2 million wildebeests (notably zebras and wildebeest), migrate throughout Kenya and Tanzania in line with the rains, in search of new feeding and mating grounds.
Day 3 – Masai Mara National Reserve
Included in your safari is a hot air balloon ride over the game-filled savanna followed by a champagne breakfast. You can choose which day you would prefer to enjoy this activity, but here’s a rundown of what it would look like. You’ll wake up before dawn with freshly-brewed tea or coffee delivered to your tented suite. Then you will take a leisurely drive to the launch site in the middle of the bush, and watch the amazing sight of the enormous balloon filling with air while you sip a warm cup of coffee. After a quick pre-flight briefing, you’re in the basket. The balloon is airborne and you’re floating effortlessly above the Mara. See the Mara plains from a new perspective, spot wildlife and enjoy the beautiful sunrise all from the basket of a balloon. Once you’ve settled back to earth, toast the morning’s activities with a celebratory champagne breakfast under a tree in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by nature.
Day 4 – Masai Mara National Reserve
After flying high yesterday, today you can have a more grounded experience. Go on a walking safari that’s guided by the Angama Mara’s Maasai naturalists along the edge of the Great Rift Valley. Exploring this wild corner of Kenya on foot is very exciting. Your spotter will keep an eagle eye out for predators while your guide will provide a fascinating commentary on the flowers, trees, flora and fauna, as well as small animals and insect life you come across along the way. You can also, if you wish to, take an in-depth guided tour of the lodge’s 1-acre kitchen garden. Guests can pick their own lunch in the garden and enjoy it right there, under the shade of towering moth trees. You can also while away a couple of hours in the Library browsing through the collection of Africana books; or visit the Map Room and pour over a vast collection of over 150 maps, some created just for Angama, whilst the oldest dates back to 1608.
Day 5 Masai Mara National Reserve
After your morning safari, you can hone your editing skills under the expert tuition of our team in the Photographic Studio. We highly recommend that you bring your camera along (not just your cellphone) so that you can take some amazing photos of all the wildlife you will come across. If you’re after a little bit of relaxation on your last full day of safari, go laze at the pool and perhaps a zebra might stop by for a drink. If you want to be active, have a workout in the Fitness Room and enjoy the fabulous view. You can also stop by the Beading Studio adjacent to the Safari boutique and learn the art of making exquisite jewellery from the Maasai mamas. Maybe you want to relax your muscles; then we suggest a 60-minute massage. It’s best to go after your safari excursion. But if none of these activities appeal to you, then simply relax to take in the views and roaming wildlife from the red rocking chairs on your deck.
Day 6 Masai Mara National Reserve
Today you are travelling home and have to say goodbye to the Masai Mara and the wonderful team at Angama Mara. At a time to be confirmed by lodge management, you will be transferred from the Angama Mara Airstrip back to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. You will then catch your connecting international flight back home.
