The Lamai Triangle is a wedge of northern Serengeti that pushes up toward the Kenyan border, bounded on one side by the Mara River. This geography makes it uniquely positioned: the river crossings, where hundreds of thousands of wildebeest and zebra gather on the banks and then plunge into the crocodile-filled water, happen right here. Between July and October when the migration is at its peak, guests at Singita Mara wake to a landscape transformed by the movement of animals in numbers that feel genuinely biblical.
But the Lamai Triangle is not only a migration destination. Resident wildlife is exceptional year-round, with large populations of lion, leopard, cheetah, elephant, buffalo, and crocodile. The rocky kopjes of the northern Serengeti provide habitat that southern camps rarely offer, and the combination of open grassland, riverine forest, and volcanic rock makes every drive varied and unpredictable.
Africa Bed of Roses Safaris arranged our chartered flight from Arusha to Serengeti Lamai Airstrip, a journey of roughly one and a half hours. The camp is approximately a 45-minute game drive from the airstrip, which means the safari begins before you even check in. Our vehicle stopped twice during that transfer: once for a leopard lying in an acacia tree about fifteen metres from the track, and once for a herd of around two hundred buffalo crossing the road in front of us as if we were not there.
Six luxury tented suites are arranged along the riverbank, each raised on a platform to give guests an elevated view of the Mara River below. The design language draws from the vibrant geometry of Maasai beadwork: bold colours, intricate patterns, and locally made furniture that gives the interiors a warmth and character entirely unlike the neutral safari palette of many camps.
Each suite has a generous bedroom with a king-size bed, an en-suite bathroom with both an indoor and outdoor shower and a freestanding bathtub positioned to face the landscape, a private viewing deck, and a minibar and coffee station. The camp runs entirely on solar power, making the experience genuinely off-grid without sacrificing any comfort.
One family tent is available, configured with two bedrooms separated by an outdoor deck that overlooks the river. For honeymoon couples, the intimacy of a camp with only six suites means that the service is personalised in a way that larger properties simply cannot offer.
Meals at Singita Mara are a genuine pleasure. All food, drinks, and twice-daily game drives are included in the rate, with premium wines and French champagne the only exclusion. The kitchen produces dishes that are sophisticated without being precious, drawing on East African ingredients and international technique to create meals that feel right for the landscape.
One evening, Africa Bed of Roses Safaris had arranged a private dinner on a platform above the river, with lanterns, the sound of hippos below, and a sky so dense with stars that we barely looked at our food. My wife said she had eaten in some extraordinary restaurants, but nothing had ever had a setting that came close to that.
The camp’s bonfire in the evenings is where guests gather naturally, cocktails in hand, to share the stories of the day’s drives. Even with only a handful of couples and solo travellers at the camp during our stay, it had the warmth of a genuine community.
| Season | Rate |

Twice-daily game drives in open-sided Land Rovers are the primary activity, led by guides whose knowledge of the Lamai Triangle is extraordinary. Morning drives follow predators through the kopjes and riverine forest; evening drives extend into the deep golden hour and sometimes beyond.
Walking safaris are available within the concession. Hot air balloon safaris over the Serengeti can be arranged at additional cost, and the sunrise from above the migration is one of the most photographed moments in African travel.
Stargazing from camp at night, yoga or meditation on your private deck in the mornings, and spa treatments in the therapy tent are all available. Tennis is also offered for guests who find themselves with rare energy to spare.
The combination of location, intimacy, design, and service quality makes Singita Mara arguably the finest tented safari camp in East Africa for a honeymoon. There is nothing performative about the experience here. The wildlife is genuinely extraordinary, the guiding is among the best in the Serengeti, and the setting on the Mara River gives a romance to every moment that no interior decorator could manufacture.
